Anther A Breed of Innocence rewrite is completed. Actually, this one was just of the last few chapters. The ending didn’t feel right to me, in a way, and to one of my Betas from before. So, I hunkered down and rewrote that puppy. Again. In all honesty, I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve rewritten the story or just parts of it.
December of 2007 – Think it was completed (mostly) at 50k.
June of 2008 – Somewhere around the 80k mark.
January of 2009 – Sent to betas at about 93k
July of 2009 – Completed, again, and sent to more betas, at 112k.
Of course, in between those months and months, I did more rewriting, editing, started A Breed Apart (Book 2), and started/worked on more stories than I can remember without looking at my folder/count without using my toes, and possibly someone else’s fingers. I’m either a masochist (very likely), insane (…also probable) or, what the heck, both. But, it’s done again. Am I happy with the new ending? I want to say ‘no’, but by this point, I think I’m just too close to it to know. I am happy to say that, as of yesterday, it’s been sent off to three betas. (I hope y’all like it!)
And you know, something I’m just NOW realizing (don’t laugh, or I’ll throw a book at you), is that I work on it every six or so months. Yeah, so I’m not the prettiest book on the shelf, LOL.
What about y’all? Any books you’ve completed more times than you can count? Any endings that weren’t end-y enough to satisfy you or readers?

I have a book exactly like that. I’ve worked on it for a year and a half. My publisher has seen it and wants it, but they also want a major change I’m not sure I want to make.
The book has been read by countless editors, authors, betas, and no one ever brought up this particular point. So, I shelved the book to think on it.
It’s book one in a series of six. I have no interest in rocking the boat if it’s floating along as it should be.

Yup! Definitely sounds like Breed. It was originally meant to be a 3 book series, but another secondary is whispering plot ideas in my head, and then they want another book.
I’m hoping (though, no pressure, loves) that the betas are happy with the ending. Cause, while I love the story still, it’s really beginning to annoy me, lol. It needs a serious talking to, or spanking. Unfortunately, I don’t think either idea would scare it.
Okay, so that last para makes me sound even crazier than I am (which isn’t a lot, I swear!). But…writers will understand, I think. Hope?
Thanks for sharing, Hailey! I wish you the best with your series!
