First off, let me just apologize for not posting one last week. Honestly, I had a lot going on and I just forgot, so I’m very sorry! And now onto the post…
This week’s Supernatural Saturday is about vampires. Again. But I swear it’s a completely different question.
Question: Why can’t vampires see their reflection in a mirror? (By the way, I LOVE this question–Thanks, Alexia!)
Answer 1: Because they don’t have souls. (Which was my original guess)
Answer 2: Vampires don’t reflect light (which can also explain their aversion to sunlight), so when they stand in front of a mirror, they can’t be seen.
Answer 3: They can work illusions so their reflections don’t show, making it a choice, not necessarily an impossibility.
Personally, I favor the first answer as it was my original guess. A soul is something you’re born with, I think, and it changes as your personality changes; it shows who you are, what you’ve grown to be. I think that’s why a vampire can’t be seen in a mirror. Demons have no souls, so when a person is changed into a vampire, there is nothing to reflect because their soul has moved on. Of course, this would play into the mythology that mirrors are, or can be, a doorway to the soul. (Maybe an idea for another post?)

hmm, I chose to believe they CAN see a reflection so I can’t answer.
Of course, I don’t like dead vampires anyway but that would definitely put them in the soulless group.

hmm I’m going to go with what’s hidden behind door number 3… I’m not too sure about the whole soul thing and that being the reason because even so, they have a physical body. You know? I don’t know if I’d buy into the ‘you have to have a soul to see yourself’ camp. But, I don’t know. I’m hung up on it all. And the don’t reflecting light bit… makes me think of Twilight, even though it’s backwards. I don’t know because also why would a vamp not ‘want’ to be seen in a mirror? Makes no sense. It would just draw more attention to them in the ‘oh dude, you so have no reflection, what the heck are you???!’ kind of way. I know that if I met someone who had no reflection I’d freak a little. Or more than a little…

I see your point. I guess I just like the mirror/soul thing, LOL.
Maybe I’ll research more and see if I can find anything else. Those were just the top answers I saw–other than “Dude, vampires are not real, you idiot!” cause you know, that’s a little negative/mean.
